Flight Crew can be requested by prospective employers to obtain
a record of their involvement in any air safety occurrences that
might have been reported to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau
(ATSB).
In response to those requests from flight crew, and in
accordance with the applicants rights under the Privacy Act
1988, the ATSB conducts a search of its air safety
occurrence database. That database contains a record of all air
safety occurrences that have been reported to the Bureau of Air
Safety Investigation/ATSB since 1969. The accuracy of the database
relies on the report by all affected responsible persons of all
reportable occurrences.
Requests for a flight crew members reported occurrence history
will not be accepted from parties other than the flight crew
member.
To facilitate flight crew requests, the ATSB has designed a
Flight Crew Licence Check Request form. That form must be completed
by the flight crew member concerned and, together with a certified
copy of the applicants photo licence, be forwarded to the
Governance team of the ATSB for appropriate action. For privacy
reasons, the request form must be signed by the applicant.
The result of the database search is provided direct to the
applicant. The flight crew member is then able to manage the
information as he or she sees fit. The ATSB will not send the
requested information to third parties.
Requesting flight crew should note that the information held in
the occurrence database is not stored for the purpose of
maintaining a record of an individuals involvement in any air
safety occurrences that might have been reported to the ATSB.
Consequently, the ATSB cannot warrant that an individuals
involvement in an air safety occurrence could be accurately
discerned in every circumstance from the information recorded.
